AAP Government Is Planning To Make Free Wi-Fi Facility From Next Year

The Aam Aadmi Party government has decided to provide free Wi-Fi Internet to city residents on the basis of limited data usage instead of setting a time limit.

wifiGovernment plans to make free Wi-Fi functional by February of next year. Free Wi-Fi in Delhi was among the prominent pre- poll promises made by AAP.

A senior official further asserted that the Expression of Interest (EOI) for the project would be released by the last week of May, whereas Request for Proposal (RfP) would be introduced in the next month followed by the work to be awarded.

If sources are to be believed, a user would be able to access social networking websites and WhatsApp, free of cost. However, one needs to pay to avail video chat, watch videos and download them.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of IT, Adarsh Shastri said that they will work on ensuring a minimum speed of 512Kbps to each user and make it a better experience. Further, they will be very strict on user experience and uninterrupted service.

He further confirmed that Internet will be charged on the basis of data usage per day. Users would be able to avail the service by paying for extra usage if the data limit is exhausted.

Shastri revealed that metro stations, markets, parks and high density areas would be covered, which constitutes almost 60 per cent of the city. Almost 50,000 to 80,000 hotspots would be set up across Delhi.
