1. Deutsche Bank Confirms Provider Breach Exposed Customer Data

Deutsche Bank AG, one of the largest banks in the world, with total assets of USD 1.5 trillion and an annual net income of USD 6.3 billion has confirmed a data breach that occurred with one of its service providers. The breach is likely associated with a data-theft attack by the Clop ransomware group exploiting a MOVEit Transfer vulnerability. The incident resulted in the exposure of customer data in Germany for those who utilized its account switching service in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020.

Despite the incident, Deutsche Bank’s own systems were unaffected. While the exact number of impacted clients remains undisclosed, the bank assured that all affected customers have been notified, and only a limited amount of personal data was exposed. The bank is said to be actively investigating the cause of the breach.

Deutsche Bank clarified that cybercriminals cannot directly access accounts using the exposed data but may attempt unauthorized direct debits. The data breach also affected other major banks and financial service providers in Germany, including Commerzbank, Postbank, Comdirect, and ING. However, specific details on the number of affected clients at those institutions are yet to be disclosed.
