Bharti Airtel has launched India’s first AI-powered, network-based spam detection solution aimed at combating the rising issue of spam calls and messages. This groundbreaking solution will alert Airtel customers in real-time to potential spam, without requiring them to download any apps or raise service requests. The service is automatically activated for all users at no extra cost.
Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO of Bharti Airtel, emphasized that the spam problem has become a major issue for customers, and Airtel has invested the past year in developing a robust solution. The AI-driven system uses a dual-layer approach, filtering calls and SMS at both the network and IT systems levels. Processing an astounding 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily, the solution identifies over 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMS every day.
Developed by Airtel’s in-house data scientists, the AI-powered system employs advanced algorithms to analyze patterns such as caller usage, call frequency, and duration to flag potential spam. The system also alerts users to malicious links via SMS, scanning messages against a blacklist of URLs in real-time. It can even detect fraudulent behavior through anomalies like frequent IMEI changes, ensuring comprehensive protection for Airtel’s customers.
Airtel’s AI-powered spam detection represents a milestone in enhancing user security against unwanted and potentially dangerous communications.
