Friday, March 14, 2014: India’s telecom giant Airtel and England’s celebrated football club, Manchester United have collectively launched a new mobile application, exclusively designed to anchor the energetic football fans in Africa. The app will give club’s fans, the latest club news, exclusive videos, match highlights, live in-game updates, and player profiles for free.
The mobile app if free for download, and is available for both iOS and Android OS. It has exclusive content that is accessible to Airtel subscribers only, for free. This new app aims to tap the growing inclination of fans. Reportedly, in 2013, Manchester United became the “fastest sports organisation to reach one million followers on Twitter and Google+”. Airtel purposes to provide products that add value for the customers, with this new launch.
According to Techmoran, Richard Arnold, the group managing director said, “The launch of the mobile app with Airtel Africa represents another step forward for Manchester United, and is a fantastic and fascinating way for our followers to stay in touch with what’s happening at the Club. With nearly 147 million followers across Africa, we’re delighted that our regional partner Airtel Africa is helping us to get even closer to our fans.”
Airtel and Manchester United’s new app will assist MU fans to further engage with the club. Moreover, MU is involved in Airtel’s “grassroots football programme, Airtel Rising Stars” for children below the age of 17. The programme is already in its third year, and gained support from MU via professional coaches who train the young stars.
