Bharti Airtel may soon launch 4G services in Delhi as it has got the go-ahead in this regard from the Department of Telecom (DoT).
The company got the required spectrum for 4G services by acquiring Wireless Business Services Pvt Ltd (now Airtel Broadband Services), which reportedly took place in 2013.
Apparently, the DoT had initially demanded Rs. 436 crore from Airtel for associating itself with the firm. Airtel knocked the doors of TDSAT, which confirmed in its order, “The petitioner will be free to operationalise the spectrum subject to filing an undertaking before the court that in case the petition fails, it shall pay to the Union of India the sum of Rs 436.09 crore along with interest as may be determined by the tribunal within eight weeks from the date of judgement.”
Though, DoT agreed to the terms of Airtel, the latter would have to give an undertaking to the court it will have to pay Rs 436.09 crore to DoT if its petition fails.
Bharti Airtel is currently providing 4G services across 19 cities in the country. It is expected to tie-up with Huawei for 4G network rollout in Delhi circle.
