Alcatel, a subsidiary of Chinese smartphone maker TCL, has 
launched its Windows 10-based IDOL 4S smartphone in the US. The company already has the Android-based variant available in the market. The Windows 10 version of the IDOL 4S is priced at $469.99 (roughly Rs 31,300) and will be made available in the US by November 10.
The highlight of the Alcatel IDOL 4S is that it is the world’s first Windows 10 smartphone to support virtual reality headset. The VR headset comes along with the device. The smartphone also supports Windows Continuum that lets users connect a smartphone with a full size desktop and Windows Hello fingerprint security feature. Microsoft Office apps are also included.
The smartphone features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution Amoled display and is powered by the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU.
In the optics front, the Alcatel IDOL 4S features a 21MP rear camera powered by the Sony IMX230 sensor, along with an 8MP front-facing camera with 84-degree wide angle lens. The rear camera can record videos in 4K resolution and full-HD as well.
64GB of inbuilt storage is also included in the Windows 10-based smartphone. It supports microSD card with up to 128GB storage.
Additionally, the Alcatel IDOL 4S sports two 1.2watt multi-directional speakers with Hi-Fi audio support. The handset is backed by a 3000mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 2.0 tech as well. The battery is rated to deliver up to 13 hours of talk time and 420 hours of standby time. Measuring 153.9×75.4×6.99mm, the Alcatel IDOL 4S weighs 152 grams and comes in Halo Gold colour variant.
Microsoft is shifting its focus more towards virtual reality. The Redmond-based tech giant is reportedly planning to hold two WinHEC events in December in which it plans to reveal its virtual reality (VR) headset plans for Windows 10.
It is worth mentioning that the Windows 10 Creators Update also comes with 3D and virtual reality elements tailored for gamers.
