The Tongyi Wanxiang image generator, which roughly translates as “truth from tens of thousands of pictures”, was revealed at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai on Friday.

With Tongyi Wanxiang, Alibaba aims to compete head-on with OpenAI, a renowned leader in the field of AI. OpenAI’s models, such as GPT-3, have set new benchmarks in natural language processing, but Alibaba seeks to challenge OpenAI’s dominance in the visual domain. The relentless pursuit of AI image generation advancements by both companies will undoubtedly lead to groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in computer vision. Alibaba Cloud has also rolled out ModelScopeGPT, an AI tool for developers. Baidu and SenseTime have recently introduced AI image generators in China. However, these generative AI services have not yet been approved for widespread distribution due to regulatory reasons.
