Android 14 Beta 1 is Rolling Out Now!

Android users rejoice! Google has released the first beta version of Android 14. Even if you’re not a developer, you can easily test drive the upcoming software by simply enrolling your Pixel device at the Android Beta website.

The update will arrive as an over-the-air update once you’ve enrolled. However, keep in mind that since this is a beta version, there may be some bugs and issues, so be prepared for that. If you’re already enrolled in the Android 13 QPR Beta program with a device that’s supported in Android 14, you’ll automatically get the update without any additional action required.

It’s exciting to get a sneak peek at the upcoming features and improvements, but just remember to proceed with caution when using beta software.

This beta will be followed by another one in May, according to Google’s release timeline. Then, starting in June, there will be two “Platform Stability” releases.

The upcoming Android 14 promises a better gesture navigation experience, thanks to the addition of a back arrow while interacting with apps. This arrow is customized to match your wallpaper or device theme.

Another feature of Android 14 is the ability for apps to add custom actions to system share sheets. This should make direct share targets more accurate and useful. Android 14 also improves upon the per-app language preferences introduced in Android 13, which allows for customization of the set of languages displayed in the per-app language list.

The keyboard can now detect the UI language of the current app, which should help with auto-switching of input languages.

Lastly, accessibility services will only be able to access certain views if they claim to help users with disabilities. Google Play Protect will check these claims for apps in the Play Store.
