Android L is Google’s best till date, as per the company’s claims. At its annual I/O developer conference in June, the company didn’t reveal all the features of Android L and we’re still hearing about many updates for the same. One such feature has just been exposed, though reluctantly on Google’s part.
Multiple user profiles for Android phones are available in this update, which means that the user can easily share his/her phone with anyone without any threat of breaching privacy, by going through messages or apps. This feature has not been released in a planned way though it first came into notice through Google’s Android Issue Tracker. This is a forum where Android developers share their experiences while working on upcoming Android software updates. On Wednesday some user accessed this forum to protest that smartphones do not have this multi-user facility. This complaint was first dotted by Android Police.
A response came thereafter from Google team as, “The development team has implement this feature and it will be available as part of the next public build.” Moreover, this facility is present in some Android smartphones, provided the device producer has included it its own Android skin. For instance, fresh LG smartphones like G3 and G2 feature a guest mode which allows users set a particular lock pattern for others if the phone is shared. In this guest manner only selected apps can be used.
A similar feature has also been announced by Microsoft too which is called Apps Corner. It will be a part of the next Windows Phone 8.1 update. Multiple user profiles are already present in Android tablets but if phones get this addition too, it will be of great help surely. Sometime soon Android L is going to be launched in the market, though Google is yet to confirm the exact date for the same.
