Apple has announced a new ‘Ring in the New Year’ activity challenge for its Watch users. The challenge aims to encourage its Watch users to stay healthy in the new year.
Three colour coded rings (Pink, Blue, and Yellow) have been included inside the Activity app on Watch. The three rings denote the user’s standing, exercising and moving goals. As a part of the challenge, users would have to close all the rings each day for one full week in January. Completing this challenge will give users access to some ‘special stickers’ to be used with Apple’s i Message platform.
‘Earn this special achievement when you close all three Activity rings each day for any full week, Monday to Sunday, in January. You’ll also earn special stickers in the Messages app,’ says the window in the Activity app.
To recall, this is the second time Apple has brought an activity challenge, with the first being announced on Thanksgiving last month.
In a related note, game developer Niantic launched its Pokemon Go app for Apple Watch last week. It allows an Apple Watch user to discover nearby Pokemon and collect items from PokeStops.
However, there’s a catch. The Pokemon Go app for Apple Watch is more like a companion app and not a full game. Users would still need to pull out their iPhones to capture Pokemon. “Once you encounter a Pokemon, you can catch it from your iPhone,” adds the official company blog.
Niantic says that users can log each play session as a workout, with game play counting towards personal Activity rings. Besides receiving notifications on nearby Pokemon, Apple Watch users can also see how much distance they need to cover in order to hatch Pokemon Eggs and receive candy with Pokemon. Users will also receive notifications on nearby Pokestops. However, this feature would only be activated when Eggs hatch or when medals are awarded.
