Apple iPhone X beats iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus in durability
Owning the Apple’s most ‘advanced’ smartphone till date, the iPhone X is surely a costly affair for many. The base price of the handset is $999. In India, the smartphone starts at Rs 89,000 while the higher storage variant is priced at Rs 1,02,000. In addition to this, getting it repaired is another pricey process.
More than anything else, the smartphone’s near bezel-less OLED display is the most vulnerable to scratches and cracks. Since the back of the iPhone X is also made out of glass, it might too be prone to cracks if dropped. While the handset may look the most less durable out of the trio that launched this year, it is in fact the most durable of them. This is seen in two drop test videos by EverythingApplePro and TechRax. Both videos show the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus’ back more prone to cracks than the one used in the iPhone X. The cracks on the display too look worse in the iPhone 8 Plus as compared to the iPhone X.
In the video by Evertyhing ApplePro, the iPhone X competes with the iPhone 8 in a drop test video. The video shows the two smartphones being dropped from different angles – corner, front and back.
In the video, the iPhone X was able to resist any kind of major cracks when dropped from corners or at its back. When dropped with the screen facing towards the ground (at 7:37 mark), surprisingly, the screen did not crack at all. The display of the iPhone 8 too did not crack. Similarly, in the video posted by PhoneBuff, we see that the back side of the iPhone 8 Plus shattered but iPhone X’s didn’t when dropped with their backs faced towards the ground. We assume the rear camera bump took the major impact in the iPhone X.
When dropped with screen facing towards the ground (at 2:16 mark), once again we see the iPhone 8 Plus’s screen being damaged more than that of the iPhone X. The smartphones in both the videos were dropped from face level and waist level. If the tests done here are true, it will definitely bring a positive PR for the company. Apple iPhone X has a 5.8-inch OLED display with 2436 x 1125 pixels and 458 pixels per inch density (ppi). The company has termed this Super Retina display. The HDR display also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.
