Apple says its Homepod can’t stream music over Bluetooth connection
Apple Homepod speakers, the first based on Siri AI, has already been delayed by months. The speaker got its first release date few days ago and may take time to hit other regions, leaving several fans fuming. But what may add fuel to the fire is a new revelation that the speaker doesn’t support regular Bluetooth connectivity.
The tech firm confirmed this by listing the ‘Audio Sources’ in the Homepod’s dedicated web page. According to the website, users can have six sources for the Homepod speakers. These include Apple Music, iTunes Music Purchases, iCloud Music Library with an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription, Beats 1 Live Radio, Podcasts and AirPlay. What is interesting is that the Homepod speaker tech specs also mentions the speaker to come with Bluetooth v5.0 connectivity. This means those who are Apple Music subscribers on Android will not be able to use the Ai-based speaker by Apple.
Missing of certain features from the Homepod is not new. The company earlier this month confirmed that the speaker won’t be coming with two of the most important features upon its launch . The two features that may be missing from the speaker upon its launch are stereo sound or multi-room audio.
For those unaware, the stereo sound feature gets triggered when one HomePod in a room detects another one in the same room. They both then balance the audio output to make the listening experience better. The multi-room audio feature requires users to place a HomePod speaker in more than one room. Both can then be connected with AirPlay 2 and play the same song. Not only HomePods but other AirPlay 2 compatible speakers can also be controlled from the same handset.
It is worth mentioning that Apple is reportedly working on the next-gen HomePod speaker as well. According to a report from Nikkei, Apple Homepod supplier, Inventec Appliances is working on the next-gen Homepod with one of the features that debuted with the iPhone X — facial and image recognition.
