Making Kid Wearable Product Development Like “Child’s Play”
Today, Aricent announced the Aricent ADAPT (Adaptable Technology) wearable platform, which will enable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to accelerate the introduction of connected wearables for children. The Aricent ADAPT platform features the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 1100 processor designed for the next generation of targeted-purpose wearable segments.
Working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, Aricent is able to deliver a complete and flexible set of use cases and features on its hardware and software reference platform. This platform will allow OEMs and service providers to quickly introduce wearables that children and caretakers will find attractive, affordable, reliable and fun. A key benefit of the platform is the ability to iterate new product variations and target different age segments, form factors and use cases.
Wearables for children are often an extension of technology made for adults, resulting in products that are costly or frail. Many solutions in this space do not offer children a customized experience. By imagining smart connected products specifically designed for children, and supporting them with technology that can enable the best possible experiences, Aricent ADAPT platform will encourage rapid innovation.
“Aricent helps anybody that has an idea—be it a startup or a Fortune 100 company— to participate in the long tail of the Internet of Things,” said Walid Negm, Chief Technology Officer at Aricent. “The Aricent ADAPT wearable platform is an example of Converged IoT Solutions that combine design from Aricent and technology from Qualcomm Technologies to transform functionality and performance into an attractive customer experience.”
“The Snapdragon Wear 1100 processor supports important features consumers are demanding in their wearable devices such as smaller size, longer battery life, smarter sensing, secure location, and an always connected experience,” said Pankaj Kedia, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Atheros, Inc. “We are pleased to be working with Aricent to bring the best of design and technology to connected watches for children and help our customers accelerate these products to consumers quickly.”
Powered by the Snapdragon Wear 1100, the Aricent ADAPT wearable platform enables a low cost, low power solution for targeted purpose wearables. It supports GPS/A-GPS outdoor and indoor positioning tracking, two way LTE/3G voice and messaging, Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi®, sensors for interactive gaming and fitness tracking, and a flexible set of software and hardware capabilities through the modular, scalable technology platform based on Linux. A variety of waterproof, robust form-factors are supported, including watches, bracelets, pendants, brooches, toys, bands and beyond. Various price-feature combinations can be supported via the same software foundation, leveraging the end user’s investment across a portfolio of products.
In addition to the technical underpinnings of the Aricent ADAPT platform provided by Qualcomm Technologies, global design and strategy firm frog will support organizations in the development of new and distinctly better experiences in this space. By focusing on the specific needs and motivations of children and their caretakers, organizations can deliver a wearable experience for kids that are transformative for both businesses and the end users.
With the launch of the Aricent ADAPT wearable platform, Aricent and its partners are providing organizations a robust solution, including a combination of client-side features, cloud services and mobile applications as well as design and strategy services.
