Asoke K Laha, President & CEO of Interra Information Technologies has assumed office as the National President of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), the only bilateral chamber of commerce in India exclusively focused on the Indo-US economic engagement and trade relations.
Laha holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Communications from Jadavpur University and Masters of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Science from University of Saskatchewan, Canada and completed his Graduate studies from Northwestern University, USA. He is the President & CEO of Interra Information Technologies, a Global Software Services organization that has been recently listed as one of India’s Top 20 Best Employers by IDC-DQ Best Employers Survey 2006.
With extensive corporate experience in the US, Laha hopes to play a key role in advancing the interests of business in India and the US with a view to expanding Indo-US commercial ties. Taking from the mission statement released by IACC at its economic summit in October, he says, “It is important to take these ties to the next level of small and medium businesses where the chamber’s efforts will have maximum impact. We also hope to concentrate on key sectors such as IT & Cyber Security, Aviation, Hospitality, Entertainment, Accounting, Law and Services. Our job is to focus on the constraints as well as opportunities facing such firms seeking to do business in India and the US.”
The incoming IACC national president said that the chamber will soon create teams or units of entrepreneurs and professionals who would jointly address the issues suggested by the Indian Prime Minister and the US President during their recent meeting in Washington, DC. and put together a concrete action plan. “The idea will be to leverage the best of their internal talents and coordinate with educational and skill development organizations both in the US and India.”
