Asus has recently launched its latest gaming phone duo, the Asus ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, both of which are power-packed with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors and come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. However, the Ultimate variant has some exclusive features that set it apart from the vanilla model.

It features an AeroActive portal, which allows direct airflow to the built-in vapor chamber, and also has the ROG Vision display on the back.

Asus claims that the gaming performance of these new flagships has been greatly improved. The GameCool7 cooling system has been upgraded, with a Boron Nitride layer and dual Graphite sheets with a combined area of 16,000mm² that enhance thermal efficiency by 10%.

It also includes a Rapid-cycle Vapor Chamber, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor provides a 15% efficiency boost. Gamers will definitely appreciate the advancements made in cooling technology, which helps in keeping the phone’s temperature in check, and hence, its performance at its peak.

The new AeroActive Cooler 7 is supplied in the Ultimate model’s box and offers even better cooling performance. The phone barely heats up even after an hour of extreme gaming, thanks to the AeroActive portal opening up when the AeroActive Cooler 7 is connected. The cooler also features a built-in 5-magnet super linear subwoofer and pairs with the ROG Phone 7’s stereo speakers to produce 2.1 audio with stronger bass.

Asus’s iconic AirTrigger ultrasonic shoulder controls are also present in both models and support various gestures like Dual Action, Press and Lift, and Gyroscope Aiming. The X-axis linear vibration motor provides haptic feedback for on-screen buttons and actions. The ROG Phone 7 can also enable ray tracing in supported games, making reflections on water and metal surfaces more realistic. With all these features and the X Mode, users can expect unmatched gaming performance.

The 6.78-inch 2448x1080px AMOLED display on the ROG Phone 7 is built by Samsung and has a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, making it significantly brighter than its predecessor. The display can support a touch sampling rate of 720Hz and an adaptable refresh rate of up to 165Hz.

The 7 has a 6,000mAh battery, which is split into two equal 3,000mAh portions to improve cooling, and 65W charging, just like the previous generation of ROG Phones. The new chipset should also offer a welcome boost in longevity.

Asus largely maintained the same camera setup. It still has a 50MP IMX766 primary camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a specialised 5MP macro camera on the back. The 32MP OmniVision OV32C Quad-Bayer sensor in the front camera produces 8MP photos.

The Asus ROG Phone 7 weighs 239g and has dimensions of 173 x 77 x 10.4mm. Phantom Black and Storm White are available for the standard 7 while Storm White is the only colour available for the Ultimate. Both have splash resistance ratings of IP54.

Through Asus’ online store and retail partners, the ROG Phone 7 is now up for pre-order in Europe and Taiwan. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate costs €1,399 and comes with an AeroActive Cooler, whilst the vanilla ROG Phone 7 costs €999 (~Rs. 90,000) but doesn’t come with one ($110, separately).
