Asus Joins Make In India Initiative, Ties Up With Foxconn
Asus has announced that it will be manufacturing smartphones in the country and for this the company has partnered with global electronic manufacturing services (EMS) giant Foxconn. All the devices will be manufactured at Andhra Pradesh where Foxconn has its plant. Asus has been planning to start a manufacturing base in the country and in Foxconn they have found the right partner.
The first smartphone to be manufactured in India will be Zenfone 2 Laser and then it will also manufacture Zenfone Go. Initially, Foxconn plans to manufacture 1.5 lakhs Asus phones per month and this number is expected to gradually grow as demand surges in the Indian market. Asus is quite excited about this initiative because the India’s smartphone market has just started growing as the opportunities this segment provides is immense.
According to Peter Chang, Regional Head – South Asia & Country Manager – System Business Group, Asus India, India is a great market to invest because now the government is providing various initiatives for manufacturers under the “Make in India” initiative. The focus of our company will be provide high class smartphones at affordable price and this can be possible by opening manufacturing in the country.
