Now that Asus has launched its Zenfone 3 line-up, rumours about the company’s next generation smartphones have already started brewing up. If a report by Digitimes is to be believed, Asus will be launching its Zenfone 4 smartphone series in May this year. The Taiwanese tech giant will ship over 20 million smartphones this year, claims the report, citing information from the handset’s supply chain. It has been mentioned that Asus shipped about 17.5 million Zenfone smartphones in 2016, which is about 14.6% lower than the 20.5 million units it shipped in 2015. However, it’s been said that the launch of Zenfone 3 Zoom in February, along with the Zenfone AR and Zenfone 4, may increase the shipment numbers and earnings for this year.
The report further claims that Asus was operating in losses for the first three quarters in 2016 and showed a turnaround only in the fourth quarter.
Asus is set to launch another smartphone in India. As per industry sources, the company will be launching a new handset in February.
There are few details available about the smartphone so far. Sources suggest that the device will feature a 5.5-inch display and have a 4,100mAh battery. It’s also expected to sport a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, along with an 8MP front-facing snapper.
Asus launched its Zenfone 3 Zoom smartphone at the recently-concluded CES 2017. The smartphone has a dual rear camera setup capable of 2.3X optical zoom and 12X total zoom.
The cameras are powered by Sony IMX362 12 MP sensors (with 59mm focal length). They can capture more light and are claimed to take superb low-light images. Asus has added its Super Pixel technology in the smartphone, along with laser and phase detection autofocus.
