Avago Technologies based in San Jose, California USA, a supplier of analog interface components, has completed the acquisition of CyOptics, Inc. CyOptics is a developer and supplier of indium phosphide (InP) optical chip and component technologies. The acquisition was for a total of $400 million in cash.
Avago expects that the acquisition of CyOptics will strengthen its fiber optics product portfolio for emerging 40G and 100G enterprise and data center applications. Avago says that CyOptics’ single-mode InP laser, receiver and photonics integration capability will help extend its technology leadership position in these applications.
Avago’s optical transceiver products primarily leverage VCSEL-based technology today. Avago says that in addition, the acquisition of CyOptics will facilitate its establishment of a complementary optical components business to serve the growing segments of the access, metro and long-haul markets and also for enterprise and data center segments.
