Bharti Airtel has announced the Airtel’s Platinum 3G service in Kolkata. With that the city became the second city to Platinum 3G network.
Subscribers in Kolkata can enjoy internet 122% faster than any other network at no extra cost. They can experience the service in their existing 3G tariffs.
Airtel is betting big on newly availed 900 MHz spectrum band to unveil its Platinum 3G network in Kolkata circle.
Last month, Airtel had announced India’s first Platinum 3G rollout starting with Mumbai. Currently positioned at the second spot in terms of subscriber base following Vodafone in Kolkata and rest of Bengal circles, the cellular major is banking heavily on this 3G offering to reach the top spot.
The service launched on 900MHz spectrum will offer better services to the subscriber, especially for travelers who tend to lose connectivity from time-to-time.
Airtel’s new move is a challenge to Reliance Jio’s Wi-fi services in the city as Reliance Jio has already launched wi-fi service in parts of the city and had earlier announced that it was in process of making Kolkata first wi-fi city of the county.
