Switzerland communications firm Silent Circle had unveiled its latest second-generation Blackphone 2 during Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year. Announcing for pre-order, the firm confirmed that the much-anticipated device would be available in the next month. While the pricing details are still under the wraps, the previous variant of the phone was priced at ₹ 42,668 and tech enthusiasts are speculating a similar price for the upcoming device.
Privacy centric Blackphone 2 sports a 13.97cm (5.5-inch) full HD display with the pixel density of 1080p. Powered by a quad-core 1.7GHz octa-core processor clubbed with 3GB RAM, the phone comes with a microSD card slot and LTE support. Packed with a 3060mAh battery, the device has quick charge feature with a robust 13MPrear camera. Measuring 152.4 x 76.4x 7.9 mm, it comes with pre-loaded applications along with third party apps which enable audio and video calling, secure messaging, protection from insecure Wi-Fi networks.
The phone runs on Android based Silent OS which was previously known as Private OS. It aims to make business data more secure with ‘Spaces’ which enables a user to create separate profiles on one phone, so that work related things and personal stuff stay away from each other and no data is shared among them. Interestingly, Slient Circle says that “Blackphone is the world’s first smartphone built from the ground up to be private by design”.
Though the first variant has not seen the light of day in India, the second variant may land the country, next month as per the reports.
