Aman Gupta, the co-founder and chief marketing officer (CMO) of Boat, a company specializing in audio and wearables, revealed that they halt all marketing activities for three months during the broadcast of Shark Tank, capitalizing on the show’s popularity to minimize marketing expenses.
Gupta’s disclosure comes at a time when some founders of smaller startups who have appeared on the show have alleged that sharks (investors) have used it primarily to build personal brands and market their own startups rather than honoring the deals they promised on air.
Gupta has honored 12 of the 28 deals he committed to on the show, reflecting a 43 percent investment rate. Shark Tank is an Indian reality show where small businesses pitch to large new-age company founders for investments and mentorship.
