IT Voice News : Contrary to what Gearbox Software, the development team behind the popular franchise had suggested some three months back, their acclaimed first-person shooter epic Borderlands 2 or more precisely Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! will be released on Linux later this year. The news, a heartening one at that for avid gamers across the globe comes from the hugely anticipated game’s publisher, 2K Games.
Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford had earlier suggested that gamers and enthusiasts looking to see the game come to life on the Linux platform ‘shouldn’t get their hopes up’ about seeing potential ports of earlier entries in the series brought to the open source platform. Pitchford had cited ‘economic’ issues as one major reason why the first-person shooter wouldn’t come to Linux anytime soon, rather never. However, as things stand today, the makers and publishers have ‘resolved’ much of the issues plaguing the title from seeing the light of day on Linux. According to a new report by IGN, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! “will be the first title in the series to support Linux”.
Notably, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is set between the events of Borderlands 1 and 2 and is expected to be released for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 14 October 2014. It will focus on chief antagonist Handsome Jack and his attempt to escape from his exile on the Hyperion moonbase, and capture it for himself. Players can choose from four playable characters, each with a different class and abilities: Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and Claptrap.
