Leading consumer electronics manufacturing brand, BPL, is planning to expand its product portfolio in the LED lighting segment, after investing in the solar lanterns almost a year back. BPL Techno Vision CEO K Vijaya Kumar told PTI, “BPL intends to add more products through introduction of more efficient and superior LED light sources.”
As per Kumar, India is a major ground for coming up with the LED smart lighting business. The LED market had registered 46 per cent growth in year 2013. He noted that the company will commence with only LED lantern market at present, however it may plan to expand further into other forms of LED smart lighting for lifestyle segment in future.
At present, the company is selling two models of solar-based LED lighting solutions including Solar lanterns SL 1300 and Chirag. The company noted that it has already received a good response for its products, despite of less marketing efforts. It has sold over 89,348 units after its launch last year.
Kumar further added, “ We have a target to sell 2,75,000 units (lanterns) in this fiscal. We will also be launching a new product line in the related category in the near future.” He said that because of the affordable price, these products have become desired brand for micro-finance companies and for firms driving CSR activities in rural India.
