Although Ubuntu OS has not been able to make much noise, but this hasn’t taken away from the spirit of BQ, the company supporting the operating system. In the latest, Spanish firm BQ has revealed its plans of coming up with its second Ubuntu Phone this month. BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition, as the phone will be known as, will be available in Europe in mid-June, state some online reports. The smartphone will be priced at 199.99 euros.
Alberto Méndez of BQ, said, “Working with Canonical on bringing the Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition has been very satisfying. We share the same philosophy as them along with the same commitment to the Open Source Initiative. At BQ, our goal is to help people understand technology, encourage them to use it and inspire them to create it. That’s why the opportunity for creation that Ubuntu affords is fundamentally important to us.”
According to the team at Ubuntu, “The new device comes with a host of impressive features including a 5’’ display with IPS HD technology, HD screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and 380 cd/m2 maximum brightness. It also includes a MediaTek Quad Core Cortex A7 processor that runs at up to 1.3 GHz, an internal memory of 16 GB and 1 GB RAM. Additionally, it features a 5 megapixel front camera and 13 megapixel rear camera, equipped with high quality Largan lenses and BSI sensors. Other features of note include dual flash and Full HD video recording (1080p).
Coming to the specifications, Aquaris E5 HD features a 5-inch IPS HD display, 1.3 GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, 16GB of built-in storage and 1GB RAM. In addition, the phone will pack a 5MP front camera,13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and dual-SIM support.”
The Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition comes fully unlocked with dual SIM functionality so that users have the freedom to select their operator of choice and can use SIMs from two different operators, said Ubuntu in its official website.
BQ is not the only company working on Ubuntu operating system. Chinese smartphone maker Meizu will pose a competition against BQ in Europe, which was only in China so far. The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu edition will be available at the price of 299.99 euros.
Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition comes packed with a 5.3-inch full HD IPS display, 2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6595 processor, 2GB of RAM, 20.7 MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing shooter, and 3100 mAh battery.
