Keeping pace with the ongoing digital revolution and towards making Ranchi a smart city, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, (BSNL) on Friday launched Wi-Fi services at five locations in the capital, besides introducing fixed mobile telephony (FMT) services for its broadband customers.
KK Thakur, chief general manager telephones (CGMT), Jharkhand, welcomed customers to avail the innovative products introduced by the communication major of the public sector. Thakur said that while the two services launched by BSNL could be used by customers of any other mobile service provider, a facility for international roaming will be provided exclusively to BNSL customers. “We have BNSL’s hotspot services in collaboration with international service providers at 44 million points in 100 countries. The BSNL subscribers can now avail free Wi-Fi in these countries after paying a rental to BSNL,” he said.
The international access to free Wi-Fi for BSNL customers, both with prepaid and post paid connections, will be made available for a package of Rs 999 valid for seven days, Rs1,599 with validity of 15 days and at Rs 1,999 for 30 days.
Thakur said the hotspot facility was earlier tested in Rahe block of the district and is now available at four places in the capital. “The DRM office at Hatia, Hinoo telephone exchange, Ashok Nagar telephone exchange and South Office Para would have the hotspot facility to access Wi-Fi within a radius of about 200 metres,” Thakur said.
The other service to attract more customers includes FMT, in which those using broadband services will be able to make phone calls, irrespective of the mobile connection they have, using the BSNL landline number.
