State-owned telecom firm BSNL is all set to introduce next-gen network in Meghalaya on April 30. The next-gen network which will offer better quality broadband connectivity with the exchange migrating to Next Generation Network (NGN), would reportedly prove beneficial for about 4000 users.
N Sujatha, addl general manager, BSNL NE 1 Circle has further confirmed that NGN is internet protocol based. She further said that all the states under BSNL NE 1 Circle namely, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura would be provided with the updated network. However, the date for releasing the next-gen networks is different for each state.
Meanwhile, over 4000 users in Shillong city can use the services from May 1, depending on their up-gradation of their telephone sets.
Sujatha also declared that the telephone numbers and billing cycle will not be changed. The rate for calls will also remain the same if not using other facilities like video, picture and data through session initiation protocol.
