Today, the company announced the second installation of its revolutionary DreamLabo 5000 in Karnataka, third in South India. The printer was installed at the premise of ARD FOTO, a leading player in HD albums and prints in Karnataka.
DreamLabo 5000 has ignited the photo printing industry by providing a high quality alternative to the traditional silver halide technology. In addition, the premium quality printing offers both the production photo and the small batch print-on-demand (POD) markets substantial new revenue streams. Canon has further accentuated the productivity of the printer by launching, FlatSpread FS-500 the new film hinge processor. This innovation will not only help in eliminating the need for exclusive, pre hinged sheets but will also reduce material costs while providing more affordable lay flat options.
Mr. Kazutada Kobayashi, President and CEO, Canon India Pvt. Ltd, said, “We are very excited by the response that we are receiving from our customers for DreamLabo. It goes on to prove that photographs play an important role in people’s lives and they are keen to preserve their memories. We are aiming to capture 15% of professional print album volume within next three years and we are confident to achieve this target. We plan to reach out to other regions in India to further expand our commercial photo printing business by end of this year.”
Canon aims to significantly raise the customer satisfaction quotient which is evident with its investment in an exclusive infrastructure to train its employees and partners with the skills that are required to achieve the best results from these professional products. This dedicated training center will house professional printers like DreamLabo 5000, OCE VP 6000, iPR1135 and iPRC 800 to name a few.
Mr. Puneet Datta, Director of Professional Printing Products Group, Canon India, said, “DreamLabo 5000 is a revolutionary machine in the commercial photo printing segment in India. The demand for high-quality professional printing is on a tremendous rise. Our customers have experienced joy with this unique technology that beautifully combines high resolution and high printing speed to deliver superlative quality and exceptional productivity levels. We are happy with our association with ARD FOTO and look forward to expanding our reach in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with their support.”
Leveraging and extending Canon’s existing inkjet technology, which it has successfully deployed through its PIXMA desktop printers range, the DreamLabo 5000 features a newly developed high-density print head, enabling over 300 mm wide printing output. Incorporating Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology, the print head enables the printing of high-quality photos and detailed text to support a variety of high-value-added output, from premium photo albums, photo books, photo calendars, photo collages and other merchandise to high-quality POD items, such as bespoke brochures.
The wide print head delivers high-speed One-Pass printing, requiring only a single pass of the printing paper while the print head remains in a fixed position. When used in combination with the automatic Double-sided printing function, the DreamLabo 5000 is capable of printing approximately 1000 pages of A4 size content and 2300 pages of 4×6’ size content per hour. The system also attains high productivity by enabling paper and ink tank replacement during printing, supporting the extended operation time required for production printers.
DreamLabo 5000 uses a seven-colour dye-based ink system that delivers smooth gradation. Employing image processing technology that makes use of the full range of Canon’s unique inkjet printing colour gamut, the new printer enables the output of photo images with a level of colour representation which comprehensively surpasses that of conventional silver halide.
The retail price of DreamLabo 5000 in India is approximately INR 4.5 crore. Canon India, in association with its channel partners will work towards realising the full potential of this advanced technology.
