Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Cisco in India, at iExpo 2015, India Engineering Centre showcases products designed and developed locally for large web companies
Digital disruption is a reality today and is transforming every industry, from healthcare to education, banking and financial institutions and more. According to Digital Vortex: How Digital Disruption is Redefining Industries, a report by Cisco and the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, forty percent of market leaders globally will be displaced or eliminated by digital disruptors in the next 5 years. To enable the success of companies in their digital transformation, Cisco today unveiled three products to celebrate its 20th anniversary in India at iExpo 2015. These products have been conceptualized, designed and developed in collaboration with some of the world’s leading web companies based on their operational best practices. These new products will enable service providers and large web companies to reinvent the way in which services are built and delivered.
Product Highlights
Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 1000 Series: With a rapidly increasing number of people, devices, machines and sensors coming online, companies require new capabilities to succeed. As data traffic increases, connectivity within the data center and between data centers needs greater capacity to meet ever-increasing bandwidth demands. The NCS 1000 Series delivers fully programmable, high-bandwidth capacity between data centes which improves business agility and simplifies operations to deliver high-bandwidth mobile, video, and cloud services.
Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 5000 Series: According to Cisco Global Cloud Index, network traffic between and from data centers is expected to increase threefold by 2019. To meet this expotential growth in traffic, networks need software and hardware solutions that are optimized for scale to deliver cloud applications with greater agility, automation and simplicity. The NCS 5000 Series is designed to economically scale large enterprise and provide over-the-top (OTT) services. With the NCS 5000, Cisco is leading the industry toward cloud-scale networking, converging the data center and WAN and delivering new levels of speed, automation and simplicity.
The 5520 and 8540 Series Wireless LAN Controllers: According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index™ forecast, Wi-Fi traffic will exceed wired traffic by 21 percent in 2019. Driven by the explosive growth of the Internet of Everything (IoE), the share of smart devices and connections as a percentage of the total will double to 54 percent by 2019. The 5520/8540 Series Wireless LAN controllers are designed to handle the large number of devices and increased traffic seamlessly. They are designed with cutting edge technology devices and provide head room for business for future growth.
Strong Pipeline of Innovation
Innovation is a core part of the Cisco culture and the company’s FY15 total R&D spend was approximately $6.3 billion. During its 20 years in the country, Cisco India has contributed to filing 1000 global patents and 600 such patents have been issued for innovations across all major technologies. The three products, showcased today, continue Cisco’s tradition of ‘reverse innovation’ where engineers in India contribute to developing products, to address requirements of emerging countries like India, which in many cases turn out to be globally attractive and competitive. Such efforts are tightly aligned with Cisco’s global strategy, research and development.
Spanning the areas of mobility, cloud and computing technologies, the networking products have been designed to enable the digital transformation of enterprises that rely on technology-enabled networks to exchange digital value, including data and transactions. The three products strongly demonstrate Cisco’s ability to create products and solutions for large web companies and the next generation of communications technologies. The products also show how Cisco India’s innovation engine can help Cisco enable the digitization of companies, to be more innovative, agile and efficient. As more devices capture more data, interact with more people and change the processes by which we live, learn, work and play, digitization will have a profound impact on India.
