Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun the process For Providing Wifi Facility to metro commuters. Delhi Metro commuters can excess Wi-Fi service as authorities have initiated the process to bring its entire network, all stations and train coaches.
The aim behind this is to provide a tech edge to the rapidly expanding network, which currently stands at around 193 km, and burgeoning smart phone users
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has invited ‘Request For Proposals’ from mobile operators to install wifi hotspots at stations and trains in this regard.
Currently, only trains and stations in the 5.1km long Rapid Metro Network in Gurgaon are Wi-Fi enabled. It has also upgraded its helpline to a more advanced 24×7 bilingual Interactive Voice Response System aimed especially at commuters who are not conversant with signs at station premises.
Delhi Metro is coming up with new initiatives for its commuters as it recently tied up with ‘Offer World’, an application for Android users to offer redeemable points to metro commuters for recharging their smart cards. Started from 30 March, several Delhi Metro commuters could able to download new free apps from an application. This initiative was aimed at encouraging use of smart cards by tapping the community of Android smartphone users.
