Desktop Virtualization Market Looking At Positive Growth: Citrix

Earlier there was a lot of hesitation in adoption of desktop virtualization (DV), the advent of newer technologies such as Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), now there is an increased confidence in the enterprise to deploy DV. With the help of DV, CIOs are not only increasing efficiency and saving costs, but are empowering their workforce to be productive.

Talking about this shift, Parag Arora–Area Vice President and Country Head, India Sub continent, Citrix, said, “The primary reason that is making this shift possible is that most enterprises are actively discussing, planning or implementing the transition from desktop to workspaces. They understand that the landscape is becoming more complex fuelled by an increasing set of diverse applications across various devices with varied form factors. Simultaneously CIOs are trying to simplify and secure the enormous volume of the data being shared across these devices. This not a question of adoption but a much larger focus on creating workspaces, encompassing everything from storage to servers and Graphic Processing Units (GPU) rendering to other platforms.

DV has gradually become a mainstream enterprise technology that has the potential to replace traditional desktops and offer more usability to the users and the IT team. As compared to physical desktop infrastructure, the benefits of desktop virtualization are manifold – user flexibility to use any device, anytime, anywhere while IT team can centrally manage the systems without compromising security. Earlier, DV was perceived as a niche or high-end technology which was beyond the reach of most companies, mainly due to its pricing structure.

Citrix has constantly innovated with XenDesktop, its own desktop virtualization solution by combining granular controls with an uncompromised user experience. The biggest milestones is Citrix’s revamped offering, making DV available at a cost comparable to that of physical desktops and this could remove a huge bottleneck in its adoption which will encourage companies of all sizes across various sectors to shift to DV. Likewise, it was important to offer a service-based approach to DV which will help businesses get the better solution at an economical cost.
