- The ARM mbed development platform is the fastest way to create products based on ARM microcontrollers
- Partnership will open up ARM tools to a much wider range of products
- element14 the first global enablement services partner for the ARM-based platform
element14 has been announced as the first third-party services partner for mbed, the development platform that allows developers to quickly create products based on ARM microcontrollers. The partnership will bring the ARM development platform and tools to a much wider range of boards and products, with element14 working alongside customers to train engineers and designers.
The mbed platform provides free software libraries, hardware designs and online tools for professional rapid prototyping of products based on ARM microcontrollers. It includes a standards-based C/C++ SDK, a microcontroller HDK and supported development boards, an online compiler and online developer collaboration tools.
As a services partner, mbed will train engineers within element14’s wholly-owned subsidiary Embest, to use the hardware and enable mbed’s delivery regardless of platform and existing software. With its popular online community and expertise at every stage of the design cycle, element14 is an ideal partner for mbed.
Through its embedded design expertise at Embest and AVID Technologies, element14 will also be offering customers the option to include mbed as part of new and existing products. This will open up the full range of development boards to mbed, allowing engineers to quickly and easily get closer to the chip functionality and to utilise ARM design tools.
“element14 is the first services provider to the ARM mbed developer community and proof of the new range of opportunity this rapidly-expanding ecosystem offers,” said Simon Ford, director of platforms, IoT business, ARM. “element14’s large online community provides engineers and companies with expertise at every stage of the design cycle. This shared knowledge will help expand the mbed community and accelerate successful deployment of Internet of Things devices.”
“This is the latest in a series of key partnerships with some of the biggest names in the electronics industry, all of which give our customers access to the best product & services including software development tools,” said David Shen, CTO at Premier Farnell. “mbed is a rapidly growing platform and one that is particularly relevant for applications in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. We’ve been working on some really exciting projects in this area that will be announced in due course.”
With over 250,000 members, the element14 Community will complement mbed’s own forum, where engineers can share advice and post questions on how to use the platform and learn more about the Internet of Things. The partnership will bring these two communities closer together and encourage collaboration between skilled engineers; to open up more opportunities for faster prototyping and more advanced designs.
