Facebook ‘Safety Check’ tool resolve the problem in confirming the user’s safety at the time of any natural calamity. Check out how…
IT Voice News: Facebook has developed a tool to help users send notifications to friends and family about their safe being during or after the disaster. The tool named as ‘Safety Check’ will be available by all the users via social network platform through their computers or handsets. Handsets may also include basis feature phone, used by majority of population in developing countries.
Natural calamity doesn’t arrive out of warning nor do they have any fixed timings of arrival. Thus this particular attempt by the Facebook may prove out to be of huge help to the users as well as government. We have seen many people using Facebook to confirm their well being after any natural calamity, but by having Safety Check tool, it will become easier for the Facebook users to do the same. The idea was developed by Facebook engineers in 2011 after the earthquake and tsunami hit in Japan.
How will this tool work?
After user activates the tool, it will pick up their location based up on the city they have listed in their profile or the last location they’ve shared or the city where they last used the internet.
In case of any natural calamity hit, the Safety Check tool will send them a notification seeking if they’re Ok. If the user replies back yes , then Facebook will notify about it to friends and family. There is no option to mark ‘no’ as the answer. User can also confirm about their friends safety but for that friends will have to approve it.
