FiiO has launched a new audio amplifier in India. Called A5, the portable amplifier bears a price tag of Rs 8,999 and can be purchased from the company’s India website.
The A5 can be considered as an upgrade from the company’s E12 series as it builds on its strengths and also adds in some new features. It continues to use FiiO E12A’s MUSES02 and LME49600 opamp combination. The A5 utilizes high-precision metal film resistors to achieve a total harmonic distortion rating of almost 0%, along with an improved signal-to-noise ratio of 115dB.
FiiO A5 has a low-resistance power management system with dual +/-11V supplied power, much higher than the E12A’s +/-7.4V supplied power. With an output of almost 800mW at 32Ω, it comes with a low/high gain switch to enable usage of all kinds of headphones.
The portable amplifier comes with an 880mAh battery which is claimed to have a playtime of about 13 hours on a single charge. It also adjusts automatically to the amount of current sent to the battery by identifying the charging equipment. The amplifier can be charged via computer as well. Furthermore, the LED indicator makes it easy to determine when the device is about to run out of battery and when it’s fully charged.
Replacing copper headphone rings used in its older devices, FiiO’s new A5 uses a CNC stainless steel headphone connector ring which is claimed to be more durable. The A5 has an overall refreshed design with a redesigned control knob. Weighing about 168g, the FiiO A5 has a sandblasted finish.
