IT Voice News : Career woes for Nokia employees, who found their jobs at stake, are getting over now as Jolla has expressed interest in hiring them ahead of their next smartphone launch in India
Nokia employees, who aren’t or will not be a part of the Microsoft acquired company, can hope for something new and interesting in their career graph. Finland-based mobile company, Jolla, has expressed keen interest in hiring these laid off employees of Nokia.
Jolla Head of Communications Juhani Lassila has told PTI through an email conversation, “What comes to the Microsoft job cuts: majority of our employees have a Nokia background, and we are always interested in new talent.” In July it was announced by Microsoft that around 18,000 Nokia employees will be sacked throughout this year. Jolla announced that they are planning to launch their Sailfish smartphone India soon via e-retailer Snapdeal. Even some pre-orders have also been received from the country.
Following Microsoft’s announced it can be assumed that some Nokia employees in India will also lose their jobs. Elop conceptualised Lumia series smartphones after he joined Nokia, leaving Microsoft. Now he has gone back to the Windows creator as its executive VP for the Microsoft Devices Group. Finnish company Jolla has its offices located in Helsinki, Tampere, Finland, Hong Kong and SAR of China. Jolla’s first smartphone was launched in November on a new pltform called Sailfish and it’s priced at Rs 34,000. This smartphone’s global sales is expanding now.
