Flipkart will be selling cars and motorcycles online from its headquarters at Bengaluru. It has tied up with local dealers like Khivraj Motors for Bajaj motorcycles and Kalyani Motors for Maruti Suzuki cars for selling on its website as well as in the city. Flipkart is also encouraging its employees to purchase its vehicles from its partners in the marketplace.
This has followed suit with Snapdeal launching last month, Snapdeal Motors. It offers customers an integrated buying experience with facility to do online booking as well as loan approvals within two minutes of the vehcile being purchased on the site. It has tied up with Hero Motors and Piaggio for the sale of motorcycles and mini trucks. It is also associating with Mahindra and Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Datsun for online sales of its vehicles.
According to Anil Goteti, vice president, business at Flipkart, “There is a paradigm shift in the way people shop online today, with more and more unconventional categories like automobiles and auto accessories, small home appliances, personal care and jewellery gaining popularity.”
The shift towards online sales of automobiles is in an effort to provide a wide range of products to the customers and to retain them within the platform.
