Flipkart relaunched it’s mobile website In a surprising event yesterday. The new site is called, Flipkart Lite. The site provides app-like experience. The site is designed for those who do not want to install apps. The site allows customers to use Flipkart through mobile web browser. The company had discounted it’s mobile web version in March.
Peeyush Ranjan, head of engineering at Flipkart said, “The earlier version of flipkart.com pushed users to install the app. However, only 4% of the users actually installed to app. Flipkart doesn’t have a dedicated mobile web version and we were keen on delivering native app experience on mobile web version.”
Flipkart Lite does not require any dedicated storage space. Customers can experience one-touch home button to launch Flipkart Lite. The site is optimized to offer 60 frames per second rendering speed. Chrome mobile users will get notifications just like native app. The site will also access your hardware and contacts to enable interactive features.
Flipkart gets 70% of its traffic from mobile. The number of transactions from mobile are also increasing. This new move will enable Flipkart to cater to this customer base. Flipkart was considering to go app-only in May. But customer backlash has made the company rethink on their proposed decision.
