Foxconn To Roll Out Its First Mobile Phone From Maharashtra Factory In April
The company, which announced a plan to invest of $5 billion in the State in August last year, has set-up its corporate office in the World Trade Centre at Cuffe Parade in Mumbai.
According to earlier reports, the two sheds leased at Turbhe have a capacity of two lakh square feet and the lease agreement is for a 5-year period.
Though Foxconn is a contract manufacturer for Apple iPhones, a senior industry official said that the product from Turbhe will not be an iPhone at least for now.
In August 2015, Terry Gou, founder and chairman of the Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group, met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding setting up a manufacturing base in the State.
According to reports, The company had been invited to set up an iPhone manufacturing unit in the State. Foxconn was then scouting for 1,000 acres in Maharashtra and had been shown options in industrial estates in Butibori, Shendra and Chakan.
