Garmin has unveiled upgraded versions of their popular Fenix 7 and Epix lineups, now called the Fenix 7 Pro series and Epix Pro series, respectively. These new watches come with a range of enhancements that will surely impress fitness enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers alike.
Both the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro watches offer an array of advanced training tools and performance metrics, ensuring users can track their workouts with precision. With thirty new activity modes, including team sports and niche activities like whitewater rafting, these watches cater to a wide range of fitness interests. To provide more accurate data, Garmin has upgraded the heart rate sensors, integrating sport-focused algorithms and spatially diverse optical sensors.
When it comes to training, the new Endurance Score feature analyzes athletes’ capacity for sustained effort based on factors like VO2 max and training loads. Additionally, the watches introduce Hill Score, which automatically identifies uphill segments and measures users’ endurance during long climbs and running strength on steep terrains.
Enhancements to the mapping capabilities of the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro devices are also worth noting. The topographic maps now feature relief shading, making landscapes more easily distinguishable at a glance. Users can also benefit from weather map overlays, helping them avoid unexpected storms. The mapping experience has been improved with new split-screen and perimeter view options, allowing users to keep their stats visible alongside the in-use maps. The addition of Garmin’s Up Ahead feature further enhances the navigation tools, helping users identify points of interest along their route.
It’s important to note that exclusive watch faces and certain hardware-dependent features will only be available on the Pro lineups. However, all other features will be carried over from the previous generation. Furthermore, the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro devices will receive the latest software features of Garmin’s Forerunner 965.
Epix Pro Series
Garmin has expanded its Epix series by introducing three different size options: 42mm, 47mm, and 51mm, ensuring a better fit for a wider range of wrists. A notable feature shared by all three sizes is the built-in LED flashlight, which was first introduced in the Fenix 7X. This flashlight offers adjustable brightness levels and various strobe effects, enhancing safety and visibility.
In situations where low light is crucial, the Epix Pro introduces Red Shift Mode. This mode transforms the AMOLED display into shades of red, not only on the watch face but throughout the entire user interface. Users can even schedule this mode in advance, specifying the time of day or specific activities when it should activate.
Durability is a key focus of the Epix Pro lineup, with options available featuring sapphire lenses and titanium bezels. Additionally, these watches offer impressive battery life, with the largest models capable of lasting up to 11 days in smartwatch mode. The base model of the Epix Pro series starts at $899.
Fenix 7 Pro series
The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro variants appear to be a carbon copy of its predecessors. A 42mm Fenix 7S Pro, a 47mm Fenix 7 Pro, and a 51mm Fenix 7X Pro remain in the updated lineup. In other words, there ought to be a device that perfectly fits every wrist size. However, all three sizes now come equipped with Garmin’s well-liked built-in torch, which also includes a red strobe safety light.
Standard and Sapphire Editions are also available, with prices starting at $799.99.
