Google is pulling the plug on adult content on its popular service Blogger.According to the company, “Starting March 23, 2015, you won’t be able to publicly share images and video that are sexually explicit or show graphic nudity on Blogger.”
If your existing blog doesn’t have any sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video on it, you won’t notice any changes.
The search giant, however, said that it will not delete existing blog that have sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video. “your blog will be made private after March 23, 2015. No content will be deleted, but private content can only be seen by the owner or admins of the blog and the people who the owner has shared the blog with,” reads the new content policy.
For those who want to take their blog down altogether, “you can export your blog as a .xml file or archive your blog’s text and images using Google Takeout,” the policy states.
The new policy also clarifies, “We’ll still allow nudity if the content offers a substantial public benefit, for example in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts.”
So far, the search giant has not given any reason for the changes.
As per Google’s existing policy on adult content on the site, “We do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. If your blog contains adult content, please mark it as ‘adult’ in your Blogger settings. We may also mark blogs with adult content where the owners have not. All blogs marked as ‘adult’ will be placed behind an ‘adult content’ warning interstitial. If your blog has a warning interstitial, please do not attempt to circumvent or disable the interstitial – it is for everyone’s protection.”
The exceptions to this policy caution users from using “Blogger as a way to make money on adult content. For example, don’t create blogs that contain ads for or links to commercial porn sites.”
