Google is extending the availability of its Dark Web Report feature to Google One subscribers in India, following its launch in the US back in March. The Dark Web, known for its role in facilitating illicit activities and maintaining user anonymity, has prompted concerns about personal data security. This report feature enables users to monitor their personal information within the hidden realms of the internet. Previously, Google One was exclusively accessible to Premium 2TB plan subscribers, but it’s now open to all users in the US.
The Dark Web is a haven for cybercriminals engaging in activities like selling sensitive personal data. With the Dark Web Report, Google aims to notify users in case their personal information surfaces on these hidden platforms. Such notifications empower users to take necessary precautions against potential identity theft and financial fraud.
Users can activate the dark web report option and specify the information they want to track in the monitoring profile. If any relevant data is detected on the dark web, the tool promptly informs the affected user and provides guidance on securing the compromised information. Regular Google users can perform a one-time dark web check for an email address, but continuous tracking or real-time alerts are not included.
Google One members can utilize the Dark Web Report to monitor their name, date of birth, up to ten email addresses, and ten phone numbers for potential exposure on the dark web. This service offers real-time tracking for new results, accompanied by actionable suggestions and support.
The Dark Web Report goes beyond merely identifying leaked personal data; it also highlights additional details linked to hacking attempts and data breaches. The user’s monitored profile data adheres to Google’s privacy standards, and users retain the ability to deactivate or delete tracking as needed.
