Google is introducing a generative AI feature in its Search called the Generative AI-Powered Search Experience (SGE).
This feature, similar to one launched by Microsoft in March, enables users to create images by entering descriptive queries.
When a user searches for a query, such as “create an image of a cute doberman with his fat owner sitting near a pond,” SGE will produce up to four generated images in the results.
Users can tap on these images to see how generative AI expands the initial query with descriptive details, and they can further customize the images by editing the descriptions.
Google is also working on a tool called “About this image” to help users evaluate the context and credibility of images. To ensure safety and authenticity, every image generated through SGE will have metadata labeling and embedded watermarking to indicate it was created by AI.
This feature is currently available in English in the US for users who have opted into the SGE experiment and are 18 years or older.
Additionally, some users who have opted in may see an option to create AI-generated images directly in Google Images as part of the experiment.
Google is gradually catching up to competitors like Microsoft in delivering AI-powered tools for public use, and this move is part of its efforts to enhance its AI capabilities.
