Google has announced a beta version of Google Maps Engine Lite that will allow non-business users to create their own map, supporting data upload via spreadsheets. It’s notable Google Maps Engine was previously only available only to businesses.
“Today we’re launching Google Maps Engine Lite (Beta), so any mapping enthusiast can now create and share robust custom maps using this powerful, easy-to-use tool,” announces Google in a blog post.
“You can import small spreadsheets of locations onto a comprehensive map, visualize those places through a variety of styling and drawing options, and organize and compare up to three different data sets for your non-business purposes.”
The beta Maps Engine Lite allows users to upload small spreadsheets having location details and can show them on a map. Users can compare up to three different data sets for non-business purposes.
Users of “My Maps” can also import their existing creations into the beta tool.
“You can import your existing My Maps, layering them with still more information to make them more detailed and helpful than ever before. These My Maps will continue to be available for people who want to create simple custom maps, and will eventually be incorporated into Google Maps Engine Lite,” says Google.

Google has also shared some examples that’ve been created with the new edition of Google Maps Engine. For new users, Google also published a tutorial that offers a few sample data sets and a step-by-step guide.
