Google Meet introduces an improved On-the-Go Mode

Google Meet has introduced an enhanced ‘On-the-Go’ mode, specifically designed to enhance the experience for users in motion. This feature enables automatic video deactivation to conserve bandwidth and presents larger, more accessible buttons for fundamental controls like mute/unmute, raising hands, and ending calls.

The ‘On-the-Go’ mode functions by detecting user movement, such as walking, traveling in a vehicle, or using public transportation. It can also be manually activated by accessing the More controls menu and selecting On-the-Go. To deactivate this mode, users can tap the ‘Disable On-the-Go’ button at the top of the screen or navigate to the More controls menu to turn it off.

This initiative aligns with Google’s ongoing commitment to enhance the accessibility and user-friendliness of Google Meet. The company recently announced its intentions to introduce new functionalities, including live transcription and translation within Google Meet.

The benefits of using the new ‘On-the-Go’ mode include conserving bandwidth, particularly significant for cellular connections, improving performance, even in less-than-ideal network conditions, and facilitating easier control of Google Meet while on the move, thanks to the enlarged control buttons.

This newly introduced feature is now available to all Google Workspace users and individuals with personal Google accounts.
