Google Messages has extensively introduced a new camera quick access feature

Google has recently updated its native messaging application with several new features to compete with other platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessages. The tech giant recently removed the top search bar from the Google Messages app and is now introducing another user interface (UI) adjustment to streamline photo sharing. The update brings a camera icon directly to the Messages home screen, making it more convenient for users to send photos. According to a report by PhoneArena, this UI change is now widely rolling out to more users.

The camera shortcut in Google Messages was initially available to a limited group of users during a phased rollout. However, it is now expanding to a broader audience. Previously, users had to access the conversation and attach a photo from the “Add” button or capture a photo separately in the camera app before selecting it from the conversation to send photos. With the new change, the camera icon is easily accessible on the homepage, allowing users to initiate the photo-sending process directly.

The new camera icon is located beside the search icon in the top right corner of the app. Tapping the icon opens the camera app’s user interface and viewfinder, enabling users to quickly capture a photo. After capturing the photo, Google Messages prompts users to select a recipient and attach the photo to a new message for the chosen recipient. Users can also add additional text to the photo within the app.

While the previous method was relatively straightforward, the new shortcut is expected to enhance the user experience by making photo sharing even more effortless and seamless.
