Google Photos is getting a new feature called Photo Stacks, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to group similar photos together for a more organized gallery. This AI-powered functionality identifies and groups photos that are taken closely in time, helping users declutter their photo collections. Photo Stacks selects the top pick from similar photos, allowing users to customize stacks, choose their preferred top pick, or disable the feature altogether. With approximately one-third of most photo galleries containing similar images, Photo Stacks aims to simplify the user experience.
In addition to grouping similar photos, Google Photos now leverages AI to categorize screenshots and documents intelligently. The AI organizes these items into dedicated albums, such as ID, receipts, and event information, making it easier for users to locate important documents without having to search through their entire gallery. The enhanced organization also allows users to set reminders directly from screenshots, effectively turning images of tickets or event flyers into calendar reminders.
Moreover, Google Photos offers the option to automatically archive screenshots and documents after 30 days. This feature helps streamline the main gallery, preventing it from becoming cluttered while maintaining easy access to important documents through dedicated albums. Overall, these AI-driven enhancements aim to improve the user experience by providing a more organized and accessible photo gallery.
