Google Slides introduces a new recording functionality

Google Slides, an integral part of the Workspace suite, is receiving an update that introduces a new feature called “slides recordings.” This enhancement enables users to record themselves during a presentation directly within Google Slides. Notably, this feature will be available to users with Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Education Plus subscriptions.

The update is scheduled to roll out gradually, starting on November 28 for rapid-release domains and January 2, 2024, for scheduled-release domains. Users can expect the feature to be visible within 15 days of the rollout in both cases.

The slides recordings feature provides flexibility for users, allowing them to record presentations for various purposes, such as webinars, employee training sessions, or classroom lessons. Users can share these recorded presentations, and recipients can view them at their convenience. The feature leverages the computer’s built-in or external camera and microphone hardware, enabling users to add their voice and webcam feed to the recordings.

One key advantage of this feature is its integration within Google Slides, eliminating the need for users to use a separate video recording tool for presentation recordings. However, it’s important to note that the feature is accessible only through the desktop version of Google Chrome. Recordings cannot be created on mobile devices, and they are not accessible from the Slides mobile app. Users, though, can find and view their recordings using the Drive mobile app.

This update enhances the user experience within Google Slides, making it more versatile and user-friendly for a range of presentation scenarios.
