Looking to create market for Chromebooks in India, Google on Friday, introduced new Chromebook models from OEMs like Xolo and Nexian, a brand by Spice at Rs 12,999. These will be available on Snapdeal and Amazon over the next few days.
Chromebooks were the bestselling device in the U.S. last year. Now Chromebooks are available for Indian schools and educational institutions nationally. The new Chromebooks are exclusively designed for educational and business purposes.
Also, the latest units from Asus including the Chromebook Flip and C201 and Samsung will be available in the coming months from local retailers.
Both Xolo and Nexian Chromebooks have been priced at Rs 12,999. Google claims these devices to be fast, easy to use and can be seen as a substitute to laptops.
Smita Hashim, Global Product Manager, Chrome OS said, “When we introduced Chromebooks four years ago, we wanted to build a laptop for the way people use computers today — fast and easy to use, and secure by default. Since launching Chromebooks in India, we’ve been working to ensure that Chromebooks work in an environment where connectivity can be spotty, and many people’s first experiences with technology are through a phone rather than a laptop.”
On the education front, Chromebooks offer the easy to use, easy to share, and easy to manage features and have proved a hit with teachers and students around the world.
Superfast to boot up with built-in security and virus protection, Chromebooks help teachers and students get straight down to learning. They also come with Google Apps for Education which make it easy to create, learn and collaborate. With the Chromebook Management Console, administrators can set up and manage up to thousands of Chromebooks from a computer or phone. Plus, regular updates from Google mean that Chromebooks actually get better over time, reducing school’s maintenance and software costs.
And on the business front, Google is helping bring the productivity benefits of Chrome OS to work with the launch of Chromebooks for Businesses and Chromebox for meetings. Chromebox for Meetings brings together Hangouts, Google Apps and easy to manage chromebox, making it simple and affordable for any company to have high definition video meetings.
