Government of Uttar Pradesh and Google Cloud India Announce Launch of Gemini-powered and Beckn-enabled Uttar Pradesh Open Network for Agriculture to Benefit Millions of Farmers

In a significant move to support farmers, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has partnered with Google Cloud India to launch the Gemini-powered and Beckn-enabled Uttar Pradesh Open Network for Agriculture (UPON-A). This groundbreaking initiative is set to revolutionize the agricultural sector in the state, benefiting millions of farmers by providing them with comprehensive and accessible digital services.

The Uttar Pradesh Open Network for Agriculture is the first-ever Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) aimed at improving farmers’ access to a variety of services. These services include advisory on farming practices, access to credit, mechanization for agricultural tasks, and market linkages to help farmers sell their produce. By integrating Google Cloud’s cutting-edge Gemini AI technology and Beckn’s open-source protocol, the platform ensures that farmers can easily access resources and services digitally.

One of the most notable features of this platform is its support for voice commands in multiple regional languages, including Hindi, Bangla, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, and Punjabi. This makes it user-friendly for farmers, particularly in rural areas, who may not be comfortable with text-based interfaces. In 2025, the platform plans to expand its language support to include even more regional dialects, ensuring broader inclusivity.

The UPON-A platform will enable farmers to interact with digital services without the need for advanced technological knowledge. This move is expected to bridge the gap between rural farmers and essential agricultural services, ultimately contributing to increased productivity, financial inclusion, and sustainable farming practices in Uttar Pradesh.
