HKT Chooses Huawei To 10Gbps Fiber-To-The-Home Access
HKT has selected telecom network vendor Huawei to introduce the world’s first 10Gbps Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) access.
The telecom service provider will be utilizing Huawei XG-PON or 10G-GPON solution to offer better broadband services to its users in Hong Kong.
As part of the pilot project, HKT will be launching its 10G FTTH service for all existing GPON users in the third quarter of 2015. The 10G-GPON solution performs 10 times faster than current offering in terms of speed.
Broadband users of HKT can experience the 10Gbps Internet download speed, 1Gbps Wi-Fi speed and 5Gbps USB3.0 speed during the pilot launch. In 20 seconds, users can download a typical HD feature movie with a file size of 25GB using 10Gbps broadband. Users can also select their 4K camera viewing angle, and the resolution available through the transmission will be four times sharper than conventional HD.
Huawei and HKT have completed the preparation of 10Gbps access based on Huawei’s new OLT MA5800 and its XG-PON gateway Optical Network Terminal (ONT) for a trial launch for selective FTTH customers in the second quarter of 2015.
Huawei claims that it is already serving over a third of broadband customers worldwide through its SingleFAN solution.
