With HTC mostly absent from the tablet field (with the exception of flopped Flyer), it was bound to be the subject of speculation again. This time around, reports suggest HTC could launch 7-inch and 12-inch Windows RT tablets in 2013.
One of the pioneers of smartphones, HTC is reportedly trying to re-enter the tablet market (since its ill-fated attempt in 2011). Rumours hovering around suggest that HTC will release two Windows RT Blue tablets this year codenamed R7 and R12, as the name suggests will feature a 7-inch and a 12-inch screen.
The HTC R7 specification may include a 1080p screen resolution, a blazing 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. It could also feature a 13MP camera and 16GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD card and a chance of 4G LTE connectivity along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI, DLNA and GPS. It could be a competitor for the iPad Mini and Google Nexus 7 in terms of market share. However, in terms of specifications we can expect a high price tag for R7, suggesting that it won’t be a competitor for the Nexus 7 as the budget tablet of choice.
As for the massive 12-inch screen R12, it could have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, which is very similar to Apple’s Retina Display fitted to the iPad. There are no further details on the R12 as of now.
Sources indicate that the HTC will be launching these tablets in the month of October, however HTC has denied to comment on rumour and speculation. Windows Blue is scheduled to be released before the year is up.
